And I'm Back!

Life has been crazy and I haven't been able to blog and I hate it. I am back now and fully intend on blogging more often! I have made a few New Year's Resolutions and plan on really sticking to them. They are listed below. Let me know what you think.

1) Lose 20-30 lbs by June 1.
2) Run 4 races this year (2 half marathons).
3) Remember to enjoy my workouts, not dread them.
4) Blog more.

There will definitely be more blogging this year. Hopefully I will start some product reviews as well.

I did it!!!

I completed my first half marathon! Tiffany was my saving grace throughout the race. She was a great cheerleader and never let me quit or even sit down for a minute. We didn't reach our goal of 3 hours (did it in 3:17), but from what I have heard from more experienced runners was that this was a difficult course. I have not let the difficulty of the course keep me from already wanting to do my next race. I am hopeful to be able to do the Race for the Cure on Oct 9th. I am also going to start next Monday training for the Music City Half Marathon at the end of April. I would really like to build up to completing that race in 2:30 or 2:45. I am going to start training harder. I know I can run harder and longer then I had been during previous trainings and I am going to make myself do it. The hubby is taking me this week to get new shoes!! Going to Fleet Feet to have them help me. My current shoes have no tread left on the bottom and are splitting at the sides (they are 6 months old!). I also noticed during the race that my toes were cramming into the tip of the shoes and it really started hurting. I will post pictures soon!
In other news my car and Tiffany's car were broken into between Saturday night and Sunday morning. I am so not amused. The idiots busted in my window and stole a MP3 player. They got into Tiffany's car and stole a GPS and bowling stuff. My car is now at the shop but I get to drive an amazing 2010 Chevy Malibu! I will also post pictures of the car! Hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable day

Kind of Failing

At least at blogging! Life has been kind of crazy. Work is going good, but is fairly stressful. I have been keeping at the running and am 5 days away from participating in my first half marathon. I am looking forward to it but am a little nervous. I am not an athletic person by any means, but am really enjoying running. I am already looking for new races to run. 2 weeks from Saturday I plan on running the Race for the Cure 5k and then plan on preparing for the Music City Half Marathon in April. TJ has been really supportive of me and told me this morning, after I woke him at 5 just to go back to bed, that we need to make a trip to start looking for running leggings so I will be able to run this winter. I woke up at 5 today for my 3 mile run only to realize that I can't run in pitch black darkness. I am afraid that before work runs are no longer an option and it makes me sad. Everything else in life is going well and I will try to update more, but for now it is back to work!

Training

or lack there of. As you can see in previous posts I am training for my first half marathon. It was going great until 2 weeks ago. I started having abdominal pain and wasn't sleeping which made for poor or no workouts. I went to the doctor and was told I pinched a nerve in my back and neck that was causing all my pain. They had me on meds and I started to feel better. They say it takes 3 weeks of consistency to form a routine, but what they don't say is how little time it takes with a break in that routine to get back to it. Last week I didn't do anything except hit the gym twice. But this week I am back at it, kinda. I am suppose to run 3 miles this past Monday, 5 miles today, 3 miles tomorrow and 10 miles on Saturday, as well as go to the gym a minimum of 3 times. So not working for me. I did 2 miles on Monday (thought I was going to die) and went to the gym once. Hopefully tonight I will be able to do the full 5 miles and go to the gym. I am going to get back on top of the runs because I have seen or layout for the half marathon and it is going to kick my butt if I don't kick it in gear! Here is hoping that the rain holds off or goes away so that I can get more motivated.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Finally I have sometime to sit down and type! Work is crazy busy and I am so tired I can't see straight. Last weekend was great. We went to the Music City Marathon and watched Tiffany and Kenzi run the half marathon. The downfall was the downpour we encountered, but it was so worth it. Then Tiff and Derek spent the night and Tiff and I got to go baby shower shopping! Lindsey's shower is this weekend. On Sunday night I tried adding a new element to my workouts, Jillian Micheal's 30 day Shred. I am pretty sure I died for a minute during the workout. I have decided that for now I am going to slowly implement it in on the days that I don't run. Work is hectic and crazy and I want to take a mental health day so bad. Hopefully this weekend will bring me some much needed rest and relaxation. I am going on my first long run (4 miles) tomorrow with Tiffany friend after the baby shower. I am going to work hard at having a good weekend.

Overbooked

So work has been crazy lately. I can only get 11 new cases a month. Last month I got 11 and so far for this month I am at 9. I am on call 2 more days this month. Right now I am sitting at 17 cases (2 have been submitted to close and I have 1 more to turn in today though). I have not had a case load this high since September last year. It seems that a lot of these cases have come in during the last 2 weeks. All this leads to the need to schedule meetings with families. I am usually really good at not over scheduling myself, however I have failed at doing so this week and next. Today is the only day that I am working a regularly scheduled day. On Friday I am having to flex out time, but am on-call Friday night so it may not matter. All of this is an issue and a stress because our home is a home of early birds. TJ is at work most days between 6:30 and 7 and I try to be at work between 7 and 7:30. We are both off by 4:00. This week however I am not able to go in until 9 or 9:30 so that I am able to work later. Hopefully this will all end at the end of the month and I will have my case load back to 10 or less.
Tonight, however, I am leaving work at 4! I am going home fixing dinner and then meeting at least 1 friend to see a movie. I have not had a girls' night to the movies in what seems like forever (it was November). Usually the girls and I watch movies with the boys or are watching them at home on Netflix. All of that is great, but it will be nice to go to a movie and not have the boys poking fun or saying it is stupid. Tonight I will leave work without a file in my car or worrying about a case. Tonight will be a stress free night.

What have I done!

So this is a blog that focuses more on my life in general. To follow my adoption journey check out my other blog: http://hseabrooks.blogspot.com/. For anyone that doesn't know me or what it is that I do I am currently working for the Department of Children's Services as a Child Abuse Investigator. So as you may imagine I have a stressful job and over the last 2 years I have re-learned that the best way to deal with my stress is by working out. I workout at Curves (great way to burn quick calories!) and have recently decided to start jogging/running. My wonderful friend Tiffany, check her blog out http://halfmarathontrainee.blogspot.com/ is currently training for the Music City Half Marathon and is loving it. She sent me a message last week and asked if I would be interested in doing a half marathon in September with her. I said yes! I am not sure what I have done, but I am really excited. I officially paid the registration fee today, have gotten a training calendar and started buying equipment (i.e. sports bra, shoes, the Nike Plus chip). I am going this weekend because through this beginning process of starting I have realized that I need some tank tops and pants ( all my shorts are to baggy and ride up). I have not been this committed to something in a long time. Pretty sure the last time was when I was on my health kick in 2004. Then I bought workout DVDs the crunch ball, gym membership and worked out 2 hours a day. So far I am just working on running/jogging more then walking, but am starting the training calendar Monday. My goal is 13.1 miles in 2 1/2 hours or less.
So this blog will be about my training, about my adventures and my life in general.
